The Great Barrier Reef is home to about 9,000 animal species, a bustling megacity for marine life. It looks like miles of colorful rocks, but it is not. It is made of tiny animals called corals. The reef formed millions of years ago. Coral reefs are formed when corals stick together and make a hard skeleton for sea creatures to live. Today, it's so large that it can be seen from space.
